Kim Kardashian breaks silence on Balenciaga photo shoot controversy

Kim Kardashian says she’s “reevaluating” her working relationship with Balenciaga after the luxury fashion house featured children cuddling teddy bears dressed in bondage outfits in its latest ad campaign.

Kardashian, who wore a famous Balenciaga set obscuring identity at the Met Gala 2021, was among the many celebrities chosen for the Balenciaga couture show during Paris Fashion Week in July. Thursday’s season finale of “The Kardashians” focused on her walk in the Balenciaga fashion show.

On Sunday, she addressed her future with Balenciaga in a follow-up post, writing: “I am currently reassessing my relationship with the brand, basing it on their willingness to accept responsibility for something that should never have happened in the first place. – & the actions I expect them to take to protect children.”

Kardashian’s statement comes days after the company withdrew the controversial campaignphotographed by photographer Gabriele Galimberti and part of a project called “Toy Stories”, and posted an apology on his Instagram page.

“We sincerely apologize for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused,” the statement read.

“Our plush bear bags should not have been featured with children in this campaign. We immediately removed the campaign from all platforms.”

Galimberti told CNN in a statement Wednesday that directing and filming the “Toy Stories” campaign was out of his hands, saying he had “no right to choose (sic) the products, nor the models, nor the combination of the same.”

Balenciaga issued another statement on Instagram apologizing for posting “troubling documents”, after a separate campaign featuring documents from a US Supreme Court case relating to child pornography laws was gone viral. The company added that it plans to take “legal action against parties responsible for creating the set and including unapproved material.”

Galimberti said he had “no connection with the photo where a Supreme Court document appears.”

Balenciaga last month cut ties with Kardashian’s former husband, rapper Kanye West, amid continued fallout from his controversial and anti-Semitic remarks.

CNN has reached out to Kering, Balenciaga’s parent company, and Kardashian representatives for further comment.
