Atlantic Station pulls down 17th Street in Midtown Atlanta

ATLANTA — At least one person is dead and five others are injured after a dispute led to a shooting near the Atlantic train station around 8 p.m. Saturday night, police said.

Atlanta police say a man died of his injuries at the scene while five other people were rushed to hospital. The six people who were shot were between 15 and 21 years old, according to the police.

Police say the large group was escorted off Atlantic Station property by off-duty APD officers and Atlantic Station staff due to unruly behavior and curfew violations that popular location a.

Once the group moved to 17th Street near the Downtown Connector overpass, an argument broke out between the group and the dispute led to gunfire on Market Street. Police said it was possible the shooting was between two groups and there could be multiple shooters.

The APD did not say where the group was on Atlantic Station property before being escorted out. They are currently working to obtain surveillance footage of nearby businesses and residences.

The shooting comes at one of the busiest times for the popular shopping and entertainment destination. Neighborhood shoppers are out for the holiday season, especially with Black Friday just ending.

Plus, the ever-popular Cirque du Soleil shows flooded people into Atlantic Station all weekend for their events that run until December 24.

A resident who lives nearby was able to capture video of the eventful scene from above with a view outside her window.

“Community safety continues to be our top priority, and we are working closely with law enforcement during this active investigation,” a spokesperson for Atlantic Station said in a statement.

11Alive’s Dawn White spoke to a witness who said up to 30 gunshots could be heard as gunshots rang out.

Atlanta police are asking the public for help in the investigation and have urged people to notify Crime Stoppers with information about the shooting if you have them at 404-577-8477. Police have yet to say whether they have a suspect in custody.
