Frustrated Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Players Reportedly Getting Refunds

Ninth generation games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been out for a week now. They take the series in a bold new direction with an open-world design, but also suffer from serious performance issues and glitches.

It seems for some trainers, all of this (including Game Freak’s silence) has become too much, with many now asking for refunds. According to a story on VGCgamers are having “mixed results” requesting Switch eShop refunds, but there are apparently a few success stories.

A wire that exploded on the Pokemon subreddit recommends other players get a refund while they can, as Nintendo apparently knows how serious the problem is:

“I received a refund from Violet’s eshop last night after feeling the game was not in an acceptable condition for a AAA release. The rep actually told me that given the situation regarding the status of Pokemon S/V, she would raise my case to make sure the refund was approved… It was approved an hour later.

“The fact that the rep knows about the issues I was talking about means he’s getting attention. It’s one of the few things Nintendo/GF will be bound to notice.”

Separate player reports via social media platforms also recommend refunding “one shot”. Some have even been advised to view “third-party review sites” to learn more about Nintendo titles in the future, and others aren’t as successful…

Depending on your region, it appears that some support teams are rejecting digital refund requests. Here’s part of a Twitter user’s response @Skeffi__ received from the Nintendo Europe Contact Center team:

“We’re sorry to hear you’re having trouble with Pokemon Violet. We know this won’t be the response you were hoping for, but for a variety of reasons, we’re unable to refund Nintendo eShop content purchases. We have tried to make sure this was clear before the transaction was completed, both in the agreement you agreed to as well as on the screen just before completing the transaction… read the full text of agreement for all our current systems…”

Here at Nintendo Life, we enjoyed our time in the Paldea region, but cited “technical issues” as a setback. Digital Foundry also shared its own technical analysis video this week, noting how Scarlet and Violet were “technical failures” and well below the technical standards set by previous entries.
