UPDATED 11/23/22 3:42 PM ET. Bertinelli and Vitale reached a divorce agreement — and filed judgment in a California court — on Tuesday, Nov. 22, according to documents obtained by Us Weekly. The Food Network star was ordered to pay her ex-husband $2.2 million even though they had reached a prenuptial agreement. Vitale must vacate Bertinelli’s home in Malibu, Calif., by Dec. 31 in order to receive payment. The financial planner, however, can stay in the house rent-free if the Sydney alum doesn’t pay him the settlement by the end of the year. Original story below: Single and smiling. Valérie Bertinelli has revealed that her divorce from Tom Vitale has been finalized and she is ready to celebrate. The One Day at a Time alum, 62, took to social media to share an airport update on Tuesday, November 22. “I’m at the airport, about to go see Wolfie,” she said, referring to 31-year-old son Wolfgang Van Halen. “My lawyer just called. The papers are all signed.” Bertinelli enthusiastically continued, “They’re about to be filed. On 11/22/22, I’m officially divorced. Happily divorced. My God. Finally. It’s finally over. Yes!” On Twitter, she shared the video with the caption: “22.11.22 second best day of my life.” She also “liked” several replies congratulating her. “Congratulations on ending that MoFo gravy train ride and double congratulations on your new found freedom!! Enjoy your visit with Wolfie!! Happy Thanksgiving to YOU!!” a commenter wrote. Enjoy life.” The Emmy winner began the process of divorcing Vitale, 58, in May, according to documents obtained by Us Weekly at the time. Bertinelli cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split, listing the split date as December 1, 2019. The Food Network personality previously filed for legal separation from Vitale in November 2021 after 10 years of marriage. At the time, she also cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the duo’s breakup. Bertinelli and Vitale met in 2004 after being introduced by his brother Patrick. They dated for six years before getting engaged and married in January 2011. After the wedding, Bertinelli said she was thrilled to finally refer to Vitale as her “husband” after their long courtship. “I think I’ve had enough of calling him ‘my marital equivalent,'” the Hot in Cleveland veteran said during a January 2011 appearance on The View. “It’s good to call him my husband. It seems appropriate. Bertinelli was previously married to the late Eddie Van Halen, whom she married in 1981. They had son Wolfgang in March 1991. The couple separated in 2001 and finalized their divorce in December 2007. When the guitarist died Turning 65 in October 2020 after a battle with cancer, the actress has opened up about her love for the Van Halen guitarist. “40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “You gave me the only true light in my life, our son, Wolfgang. Through all of your difficult lung cancer treatments, you kept your mind beautiful and that mischievous smile. I’m so grateful to Wolfie and to me for being able to hold you in your final moments. An insider later told Us that Bertinelli was “truly heartbroken” over Van Halen’s death. “Valerie and Eddie had a tough time, but their love kept him going. for each other has never wavered,” the source shared.
