The dispute is back.
JoJo Siwa called out Candace Cameron Bure for being “rude and hurtful” to the LGBTQIA+ community after the actress advocated for keeping “traditional marriage” on screen.
“Honestly, I can’t believe that after everything that happened a few months ago, she would not only create a film with the intention of excluding LGBTQIA+, but also talk about it in the press,” Siwa, 19, wrote in an Instagram postwhich was accompanied by a screenshot of Cameron Bure’s comments.
“This is rude and hurtful to an entire community of people.”
Siwa’s comments come after Cameron Bure, 46, left the Hallmark Channel in April and joined the Great American Family network to work on projects that “will keep traditional marriage at the center.”
“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning, purpose, and depth behind them. I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians who love the Lord and wanted to promote faith-based programming and good family entertainment,” he said. said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal about his career change.
He also told the outlet that Hallmark “is basically a completely different network than when I started because of the change in leadership.”
GFA declined to comment on the WSJ article, but a Hallmark spokeswoman said: “We want all viewers to see themselves in our programming and everyone is welcome.”
Earlier this year, Hallmark announced that it had plans to show more diverse programming, including movies with LGBTQIA+ leads.
